Shutter Systems
Shutters primarily come in 3 Systems. Now that you have a better idea of the three types of Shutters we manufacture, which are Wood, PVC and Aluminium, the next step is to understand how we configure your Shutter to suit your individual window.
Hinged Shutters
Bi-Fold Shutters
Bi-Pass Shutters
Hinged Shutters
Interior shutters usually hinge on either side of a window opening, and swing inwards to allow access to the window for cleaning or to allow light to enter a room. The Shutter is connected to the frame via a metal hinge which is manufactured in Stainless Steel, Brass or Powder Coated Mild Steel. In the Ballito and Dolphin coast area or any coastal area the use of Stainless Steel or Brass hinges are highly recommended due to humidity. The standard hinged option is suitable for small to medium sized windows and is usually configured according to the individual window. When only 2 panels are used for the window, these 2 panels are attached to the left and right of the frame. When more than 2 panels are used, an additional post is added. it is onto this additional post that the next panel attaches onto. This post is called a T-Post. In summary your Hinged Shutters will have 3 standard items, which are a) The Frame b) The Panels c) The T-Posts. We have decorative frames which can also create an architrave around your window frame. This greatly enhances the appearance of the shutter and it also hides the imperfections of the window.
Bi-Fold Shutters
Bi-Fold Shutters simply concertina together as you draw the panels along the tracks. When we say ‘bi-fold shutters’, we are talking about any shutter which has more than one panel while each is hinged together. They are shutters that fold back and sit flush against one another whilst open. These can concertina to the left or right (depending on where your window is) Folding shutters are ideal for when you want to open your shutters and tuck them neatly to the side of your window. Not only does this allow for maximum light, but it prevents the shutters from cluttering your room, too.
By-Pass Shutters
By-pass shutters are made up of sliding shutter panels that do not fold. Instead, they are mounted on different tracks, which allow them to slide in front of or behind each other. By-pass sliding shutters don’t fold back – but they never intrude into the room on either side of the track
